La stagione dei premi si apre a New York con i Gotham Awards 2025, dove One Battle After Another di Paul Thomas Anderson, leader nelle nomination, vince il premio per il Miglior Film. In una categoria ampliata a dieci titoli, il film supera concorrenti come Bugonia, Hamnet, Lurker e The Testament of Ann Lee.
A dominare la serata però, come riportato da AwardsWatch, è It Was Just an Accident, che ottiene tre riconoscimenti: Miglior Regista a Jafar Panahi, Miglior Film Internazionale e Miglior Sceneggiatura Originale, in una giornata segnata dalla notizia della condanna del regista in Iran.
Doppia vittoria anche per My Father’s Shadow, con Akinola Davies Jr. premiato come regista rivelazione e Sopé Dìrísù per la migliore interpretazione protagonista. Pillion di Harry Lighton si aggiudica la sceneggiatura non originale.
Come tradizione, la cerimonia ha celebrato anche figure e produzioni dell’anno: Sinners di Ryan Coogler ha ricevuto l’Ensemble Tribute; Noah Baumbach è stato omaggiato per Jay Kelly; Tessa Thompson per Hedda; Luca Guadagnino e Julia Roberts per After the Hunt; Kate Hudson e Hugh Jackman per Song Sung Blue; mentre Frankenstein di Guillermo del Toro ha ottenuto il Vanguard Tribute. Un riconoscimento speciale è andato anche a Jeremy Allen White e Scott Cooper per il biopic su Bruce Springsteen.
