Svelati i candidati di 12 categorie della 98esima edizione degli Academy Awards, a spiccare Sinners e Wicked: For Good.

L’Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ha annunciato i candidati in 12 categorie per la 98ª edizione degli Academy Awards, tra cui cortometraggio d’animazione, casting, fotografia, lungometraggio e cortometraggio documentario, lungometraggio internazionale, cortometraggio live action, trucco e acconciatura, musica (colonna sonora e canzone originale), suono ed effetti visivi.

A guidare la classifica, come riportato da AwardsWatch, con otto menzioni ciascuno, sono Sinners e Wicked: For Good, selezionati nelle stesse categorie: Casting, Fotografia, Trucco e Acconciatura, Colonna Sonora, due per Canzone, Suono ed Effetti Visivi.

Seguono, con cinque menzioni ciascuno, F1, One Battle After Another e il candidato spagnolo Sirāt, vincitore del Gran Premio di Cannes.

Quest’anno l’Academy ha introdotto due nuove shortlist: una del tutto nuova e una di ritorno dopo decenni. La categoria Casting, debutta questa stagione con film come The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value e Weapons, ma non include sorprendentemente Wake Up Dead Man, terzo capitolo della trilogia Cena con delitto.

Curiosa anche la selezione per Makeup and Hairstyling, che include il doppio film di Robert De Niro, The Alto Kings, insieme a Number, Kokuho, Marty Supreme e The Ugly Stepsister. Tra i finalisti della categoria Lungometraggi Internazionali nulla di fatto per l’Italia con Familia di Francesco Costabile.

La fotografia torna dopo 46 anni, con finalisti come Sinners, One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Ballad of a Small Player, Die My Love, Nouvelle Vague e Song Sung Blue.
